Verlene should be remembered too for her role as a children's dance instructor. The joy of dance that she gave them along with teaching them the art of cooperating and sense of self and accomplishment was a gift for life. She was loved for this work as she was for her work for justice. My sincere condolences.

Verlene was an inspiration to me - a strong and passionate advocate for the rights of women, communities of color, and all workers. She believed in the power of education, and she never strayed from her principles.

Verlene's death is a real loss. She was a gifted labor educator, very creative, committed, honest, deeply kind and open to all her students. I remember that she came and taught in a UALE Summer School in Chicago even though she had recently had surgery and it was hard for her to walk. She was the favorite teacher. She brought warmth and clarity to everything she did. She was too young to die.

My sister taught me lot of things. She failed to teach me how to live without her.

Throughout her battle, she continued working on projects to build the community.

How blessed we were to have her in our lives.
Special acknowledgement to her devoted husband right by her side every step and breath.
No greater testimony to have.
