Vlase William BAKAMUS Vlase William Bakamus passed away at his home on April 21, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born and raised in Renton, Washington on July 13, 1921, he later graduated from Issaquah High School with great pride in his Greek heritage. After working on the family farm from a young age, he played semi- professional baseball for the Spokane Indians. Vlase married his wonderful wife, Rae Maxine Castagno, then soon moved to Morton, Washington, where they resided for 35 years. He became a partner of Marenakos Logging Company and later owned and operated the Morton Crushing Company. After working at Lakeside Industries, he retired a second time at the age of 85 years. He was known by everyone for his incredible hard work ethic and dry sense of humor. His passion was operating heavy equipment, which included grading various roads throughout the Northwest and in his spare time, he operated a dump truck. No job was too challenging for this Cat Skinner! He joined the Morton Masonic Lodge, Afifi Shriners of Tacoma, and was a member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. Vlase considered his family his greatest treasure. He leaves behind his wife, Rae, to whom he was married 64 years. He was a wonderful father to Jean Sackmann, (Lou) who preceded him in death, Janice Bede (Brew) and Bill Bakamus (Cathy). He will be sorely missed by his eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Services to celebrate Vlase's life will be held on Monday, May 2 at 11:00 a.m., at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church on 2100 Boyer Avenue East, Seattle, WA. A luncheon will be served in the church hall following the funeral service. Remembrances may be sent to Swedish Medical Center Foundation/Cancer Institute. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

Bill, Kathy and family
I was very sorry to read of the loss of your dear father. I have fond memories of a very kind man during our college days at UPS. I even remember the time I traveled with the UPS Basketball team as their Trainer to an exhibition game we put on at Bill's Morton High School, your parents were thrilled to have all of us, fed us, spoiled us and made us all feel like extended 'family'..... I know it's been many yrs since those days at UPS but I was very sad to read of this great loss.
My thougths and prayers sent to you and your family.

Dear Rae, Janice, Bill & families - You have our sincerest condolences at the loss of Vlase.
He was someone who I always looked forward to seeing, from the time I was a little girl, and I so enjoyed hearing about him working with my dad in the coal mines. Vlase was the kind of man we all admired: hard working, bright, great sense of humor, commited to his family. I'm sorry that I am out of town and won't be able to attend the funeral, but please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers. May his Memory be Eternal. Much love to you all, Cathy Chohlas Wood

You all are in our thoughts and prayers. Having lost my Dad in June last year and Bobby's mom just last month I know the pain of losing a parent. What a wonderful man and what a great, long life he had. Once again, our thoughts.

Rae and Bakamus family,
What a wonderful man! Warmest handshake around, Vlase always took a few minutes to talk when we'd see each other at UPS or Mark Morris games. He was sincerely interested in how our family was, so gracious and genuine, a true honor to know him. Vlase was unique and special, may peace be with him and all of you during this time.
