William Allingham Obituary

William D. "Bill" ALLINGHAM William D. "Bill" Allingham, 89 years old, passed away March 15, 2011, at his home in Burien, Washington. He was born on July 5, 1921; in Seattle, Washington, and was a life-long resident. He joined the army in September, 1942 and was stationed on Adak Island in the Aleutian Islands in Alaska during World War II. After the war ended, he finished his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Washington and then went on to attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he received a Masters in Mechanical Engineering. After graduating from MIT he went to work for Proctor & Gamble in Cincinnati in the overseas engineering department. He later returned to Seattle where he went to work for Boeing Aerospace, specializing in heat transfer. He made numerous inventions and received patents on many of them.At Boeing, he worked on the Minute Man missile program and the Lunar Orbiter Program, (a precursor to the Apollo space program). He met and married his wife Ruth in 1954 and they raised three children. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on December 26, 2004. He retired from Boeing in 1976, and actively managed his commercial real estate investments until his final days. He and his wife loved to travel abroad and made several trips around the world in their retirement years. Bill is survived by son John Allingham of Bremerton, Washington; daughter Lynn Allingham, son-in-law Gregory Galik, and grandsons Geoffrey Galik and Jon-Paul Galik, all of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter Kym Anton and son-in-law Richard Anton of Enumclaw, Washington. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Ruth, infant daughter, Nancy, his parents John and Ethel Allingham and his sister Ruth Soriano. A Memorial and Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, March 20, 2011 at 2:00pm at Evergreen-Washelli Chapel at 11111 Aurora Ave. North, Seattle, WA, 98133 (206) 362-5200 or (800) 755-1350.
