My name is Dale Hoggins. I lived on 9th Ave in Yakima while I was in grades 3-6.attended McKinley Grade School and Franklin Jr. High School.
I remember Bill as one fine fellow. I’m not surprise, he became a Colonel and Chief of Staff. Even then He was a leader.
The Neighborhood played a lot of Sandlot Baseball. “Work Up”, we called it. We had a bat, a ball, but only two mitts. One for the catcher and one for the first base man.
Bill’s dad worked for Safeway. I think as a meat cutter and/or store manager. I have fond memories of living on 9th Ave. and having Bill as a friend and playmate.
Even then he had curly hair and a big smile.
The Benoit family had one of the few telephones in the neighborhood.
I remember Bill as a nice and easy going fellow, but not a pushover. He was someone you wanted on your side when we “Chose Up” sides.
We used to play a lot of “Cops and Robbers”, Wild West” style. The bad guys held up stage coaches, robbed banks and rustled cattle. Real Hoot Owls. The good guys were Tom Mix Hop-Along Cassidy and the Cisco Kid.
We also played a type of ”Army” game. For guns, we used home- made pistols and rifles that shot big rubber bands, cut from old tire rubber inner tubes.
I remember Bill was an altar boy. So while the Presbyterians and Methodists
Slept in on Saturdays, he would get up at 6 AM to help serve Communion..
I’m sure you will miss Bill. I’ll miss him even though, I have not seen him for about 65 years.
I hope your memories , warm your hearts, ease your pain and bring a smile to your faces.
It is nice for me to remember to remember him as one of the good guys.
I’m glad he touched my life.
God bless.

I send my thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family on the passing of Mr.Benoit. I have memories of Mr.Benoit being one of the parents who drove our CYO basketball team to many away games. As a classmate of Ron, I thought it special that both our fathers worked for Boeing for all those years. To this day I still wonder if it was Mr.Benoit who wrote the St.Catherine's Sunday bulletin under the alias of "Zorba". Ron would never tell. The Benoit family has given me some truly special memories. Paul E. DePrez (Shoreline,Wa.)

I remember floating down the C'oeur D'lane river with Mark and his father, Mr. Benoit, in Idaho, in a little yellow and blue raft, on a hot summer day. He was about as relaxed as he could be, with his baseball cap on, his bare white feet dragging in the river, and a domestic beer in his hand. You could see every rock in the bottom of that river it was as clear as could be. It was pure summer fun, and he knew it was good. When I hear the song "Brown Eyed Girl" I think of going down that river that afternoon. I think about the Snakepit, too :). How about painting that house in Kellogg? That was something! And the blues concert afterwards at the top of the mountain. I also remember many times at Golden Gardens; his familiar smile and distinctive voice at Amy and Mark's barb-b-ques. I feel happiness for all he did and sadness it couldn't continue for many more years. His spirit lives on. My thoughts are with Darline, Amy, Mark, Mike, Karen, Paul, Marianne, Marie Anne, Mike, Ron, Lisa, Joanne, Andy, and all Bill's offspring (what a patriarch - I cannot keep track of them all!) Bill Benoit, rest in peace... but check in with us every now and then.

In the wake of this sad news I am reflectively feeling so priveledged to have had many wonderful conversations and laughs with Mr. Benoit while sharing our mutual admiration for the talents of son Paul. His support and love for his family was infectious; his pride so obvious. I hope your entire family can realize just how far his kindness reached and how those of us who knew him in such a small way were touched by what a fine man he was.
His is a smile I will always remember fondly.
With sympathy,
Paul and Teresa Avery

Dear Benoits,
It is with sincere condolences I write this note. My hope is that the soft carpet of fond memories unrolls and carries you all softly to a place of peace.
I will always remember my last conversation with Bill and was more then grateful he could hear all that he ment to me. Often I was at the banquet for dinner my seat was right next to the door and I would shyly wait for Bill to address his "entire" family and then came the "Catherine" for some reason he always called me by my baptized name which made me feel even more special. We both had a fondness for the Cookie Jar and Darlene's baked goods, there was the one incident where I ate the last cookie....I was addressed in full Bill style and over the years it remained a jab.
All the memories, Hood Canal, the famous Ward 4th of July parties, Jim Oneil is driving the van and they are all crammed in it with their fabulous "travelling bars' that were such a hit before DUI's and they are headed to a progressive dinner party. These guys knew how to party! He held court at my wedding at the most sought after table...he taught me much, respect, resposibility as I helped shine his army boots but most of all I knew under all that sterness it was an abundance of unconditional love that stormed thru that house day after day. Fourtunately I was a recipient as well and am most grateful for all that he gave and always a seat at the banquet waited for me.
May his memories and teachings carry on thru all his children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
All our best to you all,
Kate and Dave Rogers

I worked with and for Bill Benoit for years at Boeing. I did then and always will respect and remember Bill as a man of integrity, strong work ethic, commitment, inspiring and most of all a man of his word who helped others when needed. I will always consider Bill a mentor of mine who gave me chance to excel with my career with the Boeing Company. Thank you Bill and rest in peace!

I worked for Colonel Benoit in the 3rd Brigade, 104th Division during the 1970s. He was a tough taskmaster but fair and a supportive and good boss. We had some memorable adventures at Ft. Benning, GA in 1977. We offer our sincere condolences to Darlene and her family. Henry P. (Colonel, USAR, Rtd) & Kay Duvall
