William Buckingham Obituary

William Edwards BUCKINGHAM, JR. Dec 31, 1925 ~ Jan 27, 2011 Bill, known to friends as 'Buck', passed away peacefully on January 27th, 2011, surrounded by his family. He was born to William Edwards Buckingham and Hazel Barnes of Cheshire, Ct. He is survived by his wife of 54 years; Maureen Hannon Buckingham, who resides with their eldest son, William Edwards Buckingham III. He is also survived by sons Paul, David and wife Kim, and daughters Beth Buckingham and Kathleen Yearout and husband Eric, 13 Grandchildren 4 Great Grandchildren, and sister Shirley Allen. Buck was a WWII Veteran of the Army Air Corps (1944 & 1945), graduate of Dartmouth College and Master of Science from the Thayer School of Engineering. Upon graduation, Buck was hired as a mechanical engineer by Pratt & Whitney Air- craft of East Hartford CT. He worked on the B-52 Stratofortress in Seattle, the F-111 Tactical Fighter in California and finally, the Boeing 747 in Seattle until his retirement in 1981. Buck chose to forgo advancement to keep his family in the Seattle area where they could grow up in the Puget Sound wilderness. He leaves a legacy of family values, strong ethics and a love of the outdoors. William E Buckingham Jr has left an indelible mark on his family, friends and community.
