William L. Johnson, Sr., age 92, died peacefully at home in Medina January 26, 2013. Born October 24, 1920 in Havelock, IA, he was preceded in death by his parents and siblings and by his beloved first wife of 57 years, Jeanne.
He was a newspaper photographer, Air Force Pilot and Boeing Executive. He was a graduate of Oklahoma City University. Although married with children, he volunteered for both WWII and the Korean War, flying combat missions in Europe in Troup Carrier, earning the Air Medal with cluster and the Presidential Unit Citation and the Commendation Medal. He served on Forward Thrust, a director of Friends of Youth and served 11 years on the Renton School Board and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of Overlake Golf and Country Club.
He is survived by his beloved wife Kathleen Harris Johnson and his sons William L. Jr., Robert and his daughters Joni S. Johnson and Cynthia Miori and step sons Thomas and Andrew V. Harris Jr. He has 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He authored a book about his WWII experiences.
A service with full Military Honors will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery on Thursday, February 7 at 1:15 p.m. Remembrances may be made to the
or Seattle Children's Hospital. A reception his honor will follow the service at Overlake Golf and Country Club in Medina.
