I will always treasure Pat's laugh, delight, excitement for life. I'm still amazed by her array of swimming medals.

Pat was my friend from walking on Magnolia Boulevard. We knew each other only as Pat and Mary so I thank you for the picture in The Times. I have missed her. I do want to tell you how much she enjoyed her 90th Birthday Party and I doubt the Irish can claim another amazing swimming champion like Pat any time soon. She was delightful to know.

Dear Jim & the rest of the family, I am so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. I will never forget the fist time I met her......She and your dad had just bailed us out of jail and as scared as I was, she showed me much, much kindness. (and it was the last time I was in jail!) Perhaps our folks are now laughing at that incident...(and perhaps not.) Again, my deepest sympathy for you during these times...and from all my brothers too.

Aunt Pat was truly the matriarch of our family. She never missed an occasion to celebrate with us - be it my college graduation, law school graduation, and then our wedding. There is a great picture taken at our wedding of us being introduced as husband and wife for the first time and Aunt Pat clapping, celebrating, and sharing so fully in our joy. When our first child is born this month, the circle of life will continue... So Aunt Pat - "Here's to ya, and for ya, and atcha again. If we hadn't a met, this wouldn't have been."
May the angels lead you into paradise, where you can continue to celebrate our family down below while rejoicing with Uncle Jim, Mom & Pop Lyons, Uncle Jarlath, and Aunt Noreen.

Dear Members of the Matthiesen Family,
On behalf of our Sisters who taught Pat at Holy Names Academy,Seattle, we offer our prayerful sympathy to all of her family and friends. Pat's life has changed, not ended. May she be full of peace and joy - so much so, that her nearness brings those gifts to each of you.

When we heard of Pat's passing, we reflected on the loss of a patriarch....mother, family dynamo, passionate and competitive swimmer...
warm hostess, above all, someone who was "there" for her family. We were blessed with her presence and hospitality on several occasions. We know she will be missed by all.

I only had the pleasure of meeting her once, but I was moved by the pleasure she took in her surroundings, and the inner passion that so readily shined in her face. It was obvious that she loved the diversity and unexpectedness of life. Thank you, Molly, for bringing her to one of my humble choir's performances, I was so happy to have gotten the chance to meet her.

Dear Molly,
I'm so sorry to hear about Pat. She was such a great lady. I am swimming in a Master's Group now and have often told my fellow swimmers about how "when I grow up I want to be like this lady I know in Seattle - she was doing Elder Olympics at age 83!!!" As impressed as I was by her physical discipline and adventurousness, I was even more moved by her graciousness, gentleness and good humor. She will not be forgotten.
I will pray for God to hold you in his arms and comfort you in your loss. My mother and sister also send their condolences. You will be in all our thoughts and prayers.
Love,
Lisa Melina

Molly, my deepest sympathy to you. While I only met your mom once at Carla's house, I will always remember her laugh and love of life! She was truly blessed by a loving and caring daughter such as you who set aside her own life to tend to her every need. I know how difficult it is to lose a mother and please take comfort as I have in the wonderful memories and knowledge that she is in God's good hands. With much Love!

Hi Molly,
I'm so sorry about your mom. Everything you told me about her formed this picture in my mind of a strong, faithful, loving woman who dearly loved you. I'm praying for you and your family.

Molly,
My deepest sympathy to you and your family. You completed the circle of life by your loving care of your mother during her final years, just as she cared for you when you were an infant. I know you will miss her terribly. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this time.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Matthiesen family. I will always have fond memories of the family/friend get togethers, as all were welcome. Always an "open door" policy at the Mattheisen home!
Douglas enjoyed visiting with Pat and Molly years back when he was on a job roll-out in Seattle. He came home and remarked "You should see all the medals & ribbons Pat has for swimming!"
Just thinking of her makes me smile. Jim and Pat, dancing on the clouds forever more....
With love and light always~~

Dear Molly and Family-
Though I only met your mother on a few occasions, she was so like my grandmother-vital, wise, and truly authentic- that I immediately felt close to her. The world is a better place because your mom was here and though she will be missed, she will never be forgotten.
Much love-

To The Matthiesen Family, thinking of you all at this this difficult time. Such a remarkable lady will be greatly missed. Remarkable is such an apt word to describe Pat,we regailed in her stories of her piloting days, and were mesmerized by our family elder always scooping top prize at the swimming meets,in latter years Pat swam against the clock as her fellow competitors were gone to the big meet in the clouds, Hope they are all looking down on you and enjoying listening to your memories.

"Sometimes a light goes out but is blown into flame by another human being. Each of us owes deepest thanks to those who have rekindled this light." I met Pat this past Christmas and enjoyed every moment with her. I know that her light will never go out because I am a richer person for knowing her daughter Molly, my sister in Christ. Pat's love and joy shines in her daughter.

I remember you only as Molly's mom, a very special woman, strong and much bragged about by her daughter. A diver, a swimmer, loving the water and before i knew it, you all lived in CA, not to be eyes laid on by me again. Rest in Peace

May Pat's spirit envelop you, Molly, and all her other loved ones. I'm sorry I never met your mother. Pat sounds like such a loving, generous woman, so present and influential throughout your life. She raised an extraordinary daughter.
Wishing you peace and serenity.

My name is Kathleen Cannon, daughter of Peggy Brons Cannon who was 2 years behind Pat at Holy Names. I am Jack Brons(deceased)niece. Uncle Jack and Dan were life long friends. My Grandmother Kathryn Brons went to Ireland with Mrs. Lyons in 1950 and I have heard wonderful stories of the Lyons family since I was knee high to a grass hopper. It is nice to see the swimming medals around Pat's neck in the picture. May Pat rest in peace.

Pat's greatest present to her loved ones was her loving presence in their lives. She attended every sporting event & artistic endeavor, wedding & graduation, restaurant opening & opening night, birthday party & bedside vigil. If called in time of need, she said, "I'll be right there and, while on the way, I'll say a prayer."
