Ann (Deng) LUM Ann (Deng) Lum lived nine decades, survived a history-making political revolution and twice built a new life in America. She was the sixth of 11 children in a wealthy Shanghai family. Ann and her husband, Irvin Lum, fled China when the Communists overran the country in 1949. They settled in Hong Kong where Ann gave birth to a son. The family immigrated to America in 1956 and started a new life in San Francisco. Ann, who grew up with servants and had never cooked or worked in her native China, adapted in America. She worked in many jobs, first as a seamstress and later in the US Postal Service where she retired. After Irvin passed away in 1996, Ann adapted again moving to Seattle where her son and his family lived. She passed away peacefully on July 26, 2011 and is survivedby her son Jackie, daughter-in-law, Debbie and granddaughter, Beatrice. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 20 at 1:00 p.m. at the University House Wallingford where Ann lived for the last 13 years. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

I have worked in the building where Mrs. Lum had resided at and she was such a pleasure to see everyday; always a smile on her face. She is an inspiration to those who have known her and will be greatly missed by me.
