Robert W. Beckman passed away Oct. 20, 2012, at the age of 89. Born March 13, 1923, in West Seattle, he was raised in the Admiral District, the youngest of 7 children. He was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 67 years, Millie, in 2009. Bob is survived by his daughter Pam Cornelison; granddaughters Holly Cornelison Hopla (Steve) and Amy Cornelison Smith (Jeremy); great-grandchildren Clare and Shane Beckman Hopla and Ava Smith all of California. After enlisting in the Army Air Corps in December of 1941, Bob served five years in WW II and three years in the USAF during the Korean Conflict. His service assignments took him to many parts of the world, attaining the rank of Major. Bob's working life was primarily in sales as a manufacturer's representative, traveling Washington and Oregon for 35 years, retiring in 1985. He served as President of Shorewood on the Sound Community Club in 1977 and was a 40-year member of Rainier Golf & Country Club where he served on the Board of Directors for 12 years. He was Club President three years, Secretary eight years, and more recently served eleven years as Recording Secretary. In 1997 Bob was awarded a lifetime Honorary Club Membership. Bob was a Life Member of Theodore Roosevelt Lodge # 229 and later St Johns Lodge # 9. Active in West Seattle High School Class of 1941 alumni activities, he helped plan reunions and class meetings. Bob and his beloved Millie enjoyed traveling together. Hobbies included, golf, gardening, boating, and home workshop projects. Remembrances may be made to a or to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
