Naida Ruth Landen Randrupp Obituary
Naida Ruth Landen Randrupp

Naida Ruth Landen Randrupp died peacefully on March 15, 2014 at Foss Home and Village in Seattle. Born at St. Luke's Hospital in Seattle on July 30, 1924, Naida was the only child of Swedish-Americans Carl Martin Landen and Alice Farrell Landen. Naida grew up in Magnolia with devoted parents and her beloved grandmother Ida Farrell. She attended Lawton Grammar School and Queen Anne High School with life-long friend Vivian Gewalt Cavanaugh who became Naida's world travel companion with their husbands in their retirement years.

Living on 30th West from the time she was a child, Naida was extremely proud of the house her father built for the family. As an insurance underwriter for Frank B. Hall Insurance, she worked in the heart of downtown Seattle with her good friend Frances Smith, watching the city grow from a shipbuilding and logging town to a cosmopolitan center of technology.

Naida called Jack the love of her life, remembering with fondness the times they shared fishing, gardening and entertaining. After Jack's stroke she dedicated her life to caring for him, spending each day with him at Queen Anne Manor.

Holidays were Naida's joy. Christmas was not complete without a visit to Naida's tree and mantel. Naida's affection for animals included welcoming the neighbor's cat who visited through the kitchen window. Her Lassie-smart poodle Yum Yum was the delight of her life. Naida loved to entertain, delighting her guests with unusual treats from her garden like beet greens and Royal Ann Cherry desserts. She was considered the fabric of her neighborhood. Friends and neighbors passed time on her front porch listening to her share stories about her childhood in Magnolia and Seattle.

Loving daughter of Alice and Martin, devoted wife of Jack, second mother to Tamara Musser, caring aunt, loyal friend and thoughtful neighbor, Naida will be remembered for her kind and generous spirit. Preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Ruthwin Dempsey (Jack) Randrupp and Walter Johnson, she is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will treasure the gift of Naida in their lives. On April 26, friends and relatives will gather to celebrate her life. Contact Bleitz Funeral home for details. Memorial contributions may be made to The Seattle Humane Society.
