Betty Jane Boivin|
Betty Jane Boivin was born in Vancouver, Washington on September 25, 1920 to Martin Basner and Irene (Beckett) Basner and died in Shoreline, Washington on August 17, 2014. She grew up in Bremerton and graduated from Bremerton High School in 1938.
She married Elgin Anton Boivin on November 29, 1940. Elgin's career in the U.S. Army took them to Seattle, Kodiak, Anchorage, Pasco, and Indianapolis. With Elgin often away from home as he served, Betty raised their three sons and worked outside the home as well. One of her favorite jobs was working for the Navy as a supervisor. Betty was a strong woman who knew how to balance the challenges of motherhood and her responsibilities at work and do both extremely well.
Elgin retired from the Army in 1967 and they settled in Seattle. After Elgin's death in 1975, she continued to live in their Seattle home until 2013. Betty loved gardening, reading, rooting for the Huskies, and traveling with family and friends.
Betty is survived by her 3 sons: Martin (Terrie), Robert (Cathy Kuhnau), and Thomas (Karl). She is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Tami, Julie, Robert, Jennifer, Sharilyn, Bret, and Lora; and 11 great-grandchildren. Betty was the family Matriarch and we will all miss her laughter, her famous "mother" looks, and her delicious recipes.
The family thanks the staff and caregivers at Aegis Callahan House in Shoreline for the special care and love shown to Betty over the past year. Your support was very much appreciated.
