Mark Taylor Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 8, 2017.
Mark Taylor, DDS

Mark Taylor passed away unexpectedly in Seattle on September 17, 2017 at the age of 61. He was born in Preston, Idaho in 1956 and was raised in Auburn. Mark attended the University of Washington School of Dentistry and had a dental practice in Seattle's Madison Park neighborhood. He enjoyed travel and loved animals, especially dogs and cats.

Mark is survived by his wife Vicky; mother Anna Viola and step-father Ray Viola of Federal Way; brother Tony Viola of Seattle and sister Valerie O'Hara of San Diego, California; sister Julie Poppleton of Logan, Utah and sister Teri Gneiting of Preston, Idaho; and sister-in-law Pennie Burton of Hellingly, England. His father Ronald Taylor preceded him in death.

At Mark's request, no service will be held. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders or Best Friends Animal Society.

What other dentist would I bring to their office to meet?

I only learned today of Mark's passing and am stunned. He was a wonderful dentist and was mine since he started his practice in Madison Park.

Even after Jill and I moved to Gig Harbor in 1999, I'd still drive up to Seattle to see him because once you've got a great, friendly dentist you trust, you don't go to anyone else.

Our deepest condolences and prayers to Mark's family and the staff at Madison Park Dental.

Rest in Peace Mark, and thanks.

Went to grade school, junior high and high school with Mark. He was a good guy and a great athlete. So sad to hear he has passed. Prayers to all.

I've had many dentists in 77 years and some of them excellent, but no one made dentistry unthreatening and lessened that dread of going to the dentist as Mark did. And it was always "Mark". Add to that the competence of someone who had done it all before. In fact he would say it: "We've been here before," as if we were in some kind of dental partnership. I only knew him for three years, but I'll miss him greatly.

After receiving the letter from Dr. Taylor's office I am still in disbelief. He was one of my favorite people to visit and was my dentist for 15 years. My condolences to his family. He will be missed.

This is beyond my comprehension. Mark was my dentist for decades but beyond that he was a man I considered a good friend. We spoke to one another as friends and not as patient and doctor. His compassion, humor, honesty, intelligence and the simple, basic truth that he carried in his heart at all times marked him as a special part of my life and, no doubt, many other people as well. His strength in the face of the troubles of others marked him as vulnerable to the slings and arrows of life. Mark nobly and willingly laid himself open emotionally to the needs of his friends and patients. I simply cannot believe that this amazing man with whom I laughed, joked, commiserated and philosophized, is gone. This world has suffered a tremendous loss. Sincere condolences on behalf of myself and my wife Stacey to his family, friends, and staff. May he rest in the peace he deserves.

Doctor Taylor was my dentist ever since he first started his practice in Madison Park, 25+ years ago. He and his staff always took such good care of my teeth.
Condolences to Mark's family and to his whole staff at Madison Park Dental.

I also just received the letter from Mark's office. What a huge loss. Even after moving from Madison Park to Bellevue over 24 years ago, I continued to trek back across the lake to see Mark and his staff. They felt like a family and made me feel part of that bond. Mark was sincerely interested in what was going on with me and my children. We will remember him fondly.

I just got a letter from Dr. Taylor's office today informing me of his passing. I'm shocked! I only knew him as my dentist, but I was VERY fond of him. All my best to all who knew him better than I. He will be missed!

Mark took care of our entire family for over 25 years. He was very gentle, and always wanted the latest updates on our 3 daughters. His passing is a real loss.

Mark has been my dentist since I was a teenager in Federal Way. I loved his dry sense of humor and his honesty. When I was between jobs, he replaced a broken filling for me free of charge. I will miss him terribly. Condolences to his family and the Madison Park staff.
