Paul I. HUNSBERGER "A Life of Consequence" Military Chaplain, United Methodist Ordained Minister, husband and father, passed peacefully into his Heavenly Home with his family around him Dec. 2, 2009. Celebration of Paul's life is Sat., Dec 19, 2:00 p.m. at Bellevue First United Methodist. He was 93. Born April 3, 1916, Chaisley ND, graduated from Whitworth College, Spokane, and Evangelical Seminary, Naperville, IL, completed US. Chaplains' School. Served in WWII, Korean and Vietnam Wars during his 27-year Army career. Met his wife Helen Myrtle Conklin in l946 in NYC. They were married in Helen's hometown, Westerville, OH, 1947. Served as United Brethren Pastor at Valley Ford and Soap Lake,WA, also Mt. Home, OR. Served military posts at Ft. Hamilton, NY; West Berlin and Kaiserslautern, W. Germany with his family five years; Fort Lawton and Fort Lewis, WA. Retiring from military service l970, he served United Methodist congregations at Tracyton/Brownsville, WA 1970-1975, also Port Townsend, WA 1975-1980. Retiring in l980, he and Helen pursued elder hostel travel and were active members in Bellevue First United Methodist for 28 years. Relocation to Wesley Gardens 2008. Paul was an avid wordworker, and was often found with his lathe humming in the "tank," his concrete workshop behind their Clyde Hill home of 48 years. Paul and Helen were married 62 years. Survived by his wife and five children, John, David, Phillip, Steven and Ann, 8 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 1 great -grandchild. Preceded in death by Paul's five sisters, one brother surviving, Wayne.
