Obituary Condolences

Irene DUNCAN Irene Yaeger Duncan died peacefully at age 91 on September 28, 2010. She was born in Baltimore, MD on December 13, 1918. An accomplished woman, her engaging sharp and focused mind and kind spirit will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Irene grew up in Baltimore, MD, graduated from Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA in 1940 with a BS in chemistry and joined Davison Chemical Co. as a lab chemist. She was the tenth female in a workforce of 2,000. Irene met Robert Duncan at Davison and they were married in 1946 and honeymooned in Bermuda. Their only child James Robert Duncan, Jr. was born in 1948. After his untimely death in 1963, Irene's second career was manager of job training for the state of MD. At age 75, she moved to Seattle, WA to be close to her only child. In Seattle, she loved the theatre, symphony and was active in the homeowners association, book, investment, newcomers clubs among others. Irene was a voracious reader, quick to laugh, never shy to express an opinion and always searched for truth about the world around us. She was an inspiration to multiple generations. Her friends knew her as a kind individual always willing to help and contribute. She had an endearing enthusiasm and spirit that embraced and participated in whatever life sent her way. Irene is survived by her sister Peggy Hamilton (John) of Richfield, MN, son Jim Duncan (Gaylee) of Seattle and twenty two nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be at Trinity United Methodist Church (6512 23rd Ave NW, Seattle 98117) at 11 am October 8 followed by a celebration of life.
