Dorothea M. Nordstrand

Obituary Condolences

Dorothea M. NORDSTRAND Dorothea Nordstrand died peacefully on May 16th, at age 95. Her sparkling eyes, bright smile, and quick wit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was born Dorothea Mary Pfister in a log cabin in Tiger, Pend Oreille, Washington, in 1916. The family moved to Seattle's Green Lake in 1919. After graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1934, Dorothea 'Dixie' began working at Green Lake State Bank, andon her weekends enjoyed exploring the Northwest in her Model A. Dorothea married Vern Nordstrand in 1944, and they raised four children. The family enjoyed skiing, hiking, and many camping adventures. After Vern retired from Boeing, he and Dorothea took several trips around the U.S. and Europe. At age 70, Dorothea received a computer and began writing about her life; first for her family, then for publication. Most recently she was delighted to see her book of memoirs go to press, "Pork Neckbones, Sauerkraut & Rutabagas, Memories of my Green Lake Girlhood." Besides her family, Dorothea loved writing, emailing, gardening, kitties, and adored babies of any kind. Dorothea worked for years on her family's genealogy. During her final illness, she was excited to learn of living relatives in Europe that met with her son John. Dorothea is survived by her four children; David Nordstrand, John (Nancy) Nordstrand, Hildy (Dan) Lightfoot, Paul (Liz) Nordstrand, eleven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Vern Nordstrand, her parents Joseph and Mary Pfister, her brother Jack Pfister and sister Florence Burke. The Children's Hospital Foundation is the suggested recipient of memorial donations. Photos and stories are at Dixie-Press.com.
