David Daniel HOFF Obituary
David Daniel HOFF

Dave, 74, lost a short but courageous battle with PML on August 16. Born in Seattle to Edward and Rose Hoff, Dave graduated from Garfield High, and was a proud "Double Husky," receiving his BA and JD from the UW.

Dave loved being a trial lawyer and was in court advocating for his clients just two months ago. His practice spanned half a century, focusing on securities and complex civil litigation, including class action and environmental litigation. He was a frequent lecturer and expert witness on securities law, litigation, ethics and law practice, and often served as an arbitrator and mediator. Dave was a past President of the Washington State Bar Association, Western States Bar Conference, Seattle Public Defender Association, and many boards and commissions. Dave was also a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the top 1% of trial lawyers in the US and Canada, and continually recognized as one of the Best Lawyers in Washington and the US.

Dave tried more than 100 cases and had numerous professional achievements, but he was most proud of the accomplishments of the scores of lawyers he mentored over the years, many of whom became leaders of the profession themselves.

Dave was a loving husband to his wife and law partner Janissa Strabuk, caring father to Jim Hoff, Paula Hoff-Zweig (Ken), Deana Singleton (Kirk), and Alexa Strabuk. He was also an adoring grandfather to Kale & Natalie Zweig and Blake & Tyler Singleton and a loyal companion to his beloved Shiba Inu, Koda. In addition to his immediate family, Dave is survived by his sister Barbara Bilsky of Boston, his stepson Mack Shultz, nephews, a niece, and many cousins.

All who knew him will remember Dave's kind and gentle manner, tremendous sense of humor, and remarkable intelligence. He was a devoted friend to those lucky enough to be part of his life, and selflessly helped countless individuals during his lifetime. He will forever be our very special "Spirit in the Sky."

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Dave's name to the Foundation of the American College of Trial Lawyers, Northwest Kidney Centers, or PAWS. A celebration of Dave's life will be held next month.
