Todd Lewis Hawkins Obituary
Todd Lewis Hawkins

The Lord called Todd Lewis Hawkins on Saturday, October 13, 2012, while at his home in the loving care of family and friends. Todd was born in Merced, California on August 4, 1939. Todd grew up and graduated school in Merced, CA, prior to joining the U.S. Army in 1957, and was stationed in Germany. Todd was honorably discharged at Fort Lewis, WA in 1964, after serving two terms.

Todd spent many years in Seattle performing social and community organizing activities through the United Construction Workers Association, and was a founding member of A Legacy of Equality, Leadership, and Organizing (LELO). Todd was also a member of the Third World Coalition, a program of the American Friends Service Committee, aimed at building solidarity movements in support of indigenous peoples' movements around the globe. Todd was also a leader of The Breakfast Club, a caucus of men and women workers in his union where his trade was a pipefitter/welder. During this time Todd served two terms on Local 32's Executive Board and will always be remembered for his contributions.

Todd was preceded in death by his parents William Hawkins and Betty Jordan. Todd leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Carolyn Hawkins and three sons, Wesley and William Hawkins, and Steve Harris. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in Todd's name to LELO, P.O. Box 28489, Seattle, WA. 98118. Service will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 1634 Nineteenth Ave., Seattle, WA 98122.
