Gerold Schubiger Obituary
Gerold Schubiger

Gerold Schubiger died November 10, 2012 at home after a courageous struggle with cancer. He was born June 10, 1936 in Switzerland, where he received his PhD from the University of Zurich. He and his wife Margrit continued their education with postdoctoral fellowships at Case Western Reserve University and the University of California at Irvine. In 1972, he was appointed as assistant professor in the Department of Zoology (later Biology) at the University of Washington. He was later promoted to associate and then full professor. After his retirement in 2010 he continued his research projects at the UW until his death. He was passionate about his science and mentoring his students. Gerold loved the outdoors and was active with mountaineering, running, swimming, and skiing. He was proud of his daughters Regi Schubiger and Marion Mays (Mike) and enjoyed his grandchildren, Kaya Schubiger-Lewis, Sidney Mays, and Hailey Mays. He is also survived by his wife Margrit- his best friend and collaborator.

The family asks that remembrances be made to either: The Delille Nasser Fund, Genetics Society of America, 9650 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, MD 20814-3991 (www.genetics.gsa.org), or Group Health Foundation Hospice Fund, PO Box 34015, Seattle, WA 98124-4015 (www.ghc.org/foundation/makeAGift).
