Harold Thorson Obituary

Harold E. Thorson

December 21, 1923 ~ December 10, 2012

Harold was born in Crary, North Dakota. He served in the Navy as a forward air reconnaissance pilot in the South Pacific during World War II and continued to serve in the reserves through retirement. In 1952, he started as a pilot for Northwest Airlines where he flew 31 years finishing his career as a Boeing 747 Captain flying routes to Asia. He had an amazing positive attitude about life, and was incredibly organized and prepared for eternity. He was also conservative with this life, but generous with others. He did not leave any unfinished business behind and was able to pass in comfort and peace.

He has now joined with his wife Louise, who passed away in 2003. He is survived by his daughters Kathleen Poole, Suzanne Popa and her husband Jim, son Rick Thorson and wife Cindy, grandchildren Bradley and his wife Katherine, John and his wife Monica, Lauren and her husband Zane, Brian, Elizabeth and her husband Ben, Mari, and great grandchildren Matthew, Natalie, and Stellan . A celebration of his life is scheduled for Saturday, January 5th at 1 pm at the Elm Place Clubhouse, 1200 6th Place South, Edmonds, WA 98020.

Harold Thorson was one of the finest human beings I had the pleasure of being his friend --flying with him in the Navy Reserves and flying co-pilot for him at Northwest Airlines. He will be remembered for the ages. Jerry Krueger NWA(retired)

We were so sorry to read of Hal's passing. He and Louise were good friends for many years; and we enjoyed Hal's friendship after Lou passed. He was brilliant and thoughtful, besides being a great pilot and good friend. Our deepest condolences to his family.

My sympathy to Hal's family.
It was my great pleasure to fly as Hal's co-pilot on many trips out of Seattle. He was a real professional who was a great credit to himself and Northwest Airlines. All who knew him will miss him.

Hal's passing brings sadness to all that had the opportunity to work with and know him. His pleasant personality and professional attitude made flying with him made only good memories.
God Speed Hal.

Dearest Thorson Family: A wonderful, kind, caring, loving man has passed our way and a lot of us are better people because Harold Thorson was in our life. I was a pilot on Harold's P2V crew in the Navy Reserves in Msp and have so many fond and kind memories of flying and socializing with him. He was a great and talented Pilot and such a people person to know. May God give you strength to endure such a loss. Sadly and with heartfelt condolences. Gerald & Mary Ann Krueger NWA pilot retired.
