Gordon Richard Iles|
Born Nov. 20, 1931 in Tacoma, WA. Gordon died unexpectedly Jan. 22, 2013. He attended Horace Mann Elementary, Steward Junior High, and graduated in 1949 from Tacoma's Lincoln High School.
He was a 1953 alumnus of the Univ. of Wash., where he majored in marketing & advertising and was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He entered the advertising business in 1954 at the Spokesman Review in Spokane, later worked as a copywriter for the Bon Marche in Spokane and then as assistant to the sales promotion manager of the Bon in Seattle. He joined Cappy Ricks & Assoc. Advertising in 1956 and became vice president. He opened Gordon R. Iles Advertising in 1963 retiring in 1996.
Gordon served as president of the Seattle Advertising Federation in 1972-73, chaired the publicity committee for the first Channel 9-On-The-Air Auction in 1974, originated and chaired the first Mayor's Small Business Awards program in 1984, chaired the Mayor's Small Business Task Force, served as manager of the Broadway Business Improvement Associations, and was a board member of the Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce.
Gordon had a zest for life. He loved to travel and enjoyed the arts, especially the theatre, and in retirement volunteered for the Seattle Theatre Group, conducting monthly Saturday tours for the Paramount and Moore theatres. He faithfully attended the opera, ballet and symphony.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Catherine Neckas Iles, daughters and sons-in-law Andrea and Jim Gray, Seattle and Alexa and George Skarpelos, Los Angeles, grandchildren Elizabeth, Abby, and Matthew Gray, Seattle and Athena Skarpelos, LA, and sister Gerry Garrison, Tacoma.
Trisagion services will be Sunday, January 27, 7:00 p.m. at Bonney Watson. Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 28, 11:00 a.m. at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church. Memorials may be made to the Seattle Theatre Group and the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church.
