Dorothy Bell passed away after a brief illness. She was born and raised in the Yakima Valley. Dorothy was a graduate of Granger High School and earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Washington State University.
A life-long educator, Dorothy taught at various secondary school districts in Washington. She retired from the Seattle Public School District. A life-long learner, Dorothy embraced new ideas. A life-long giver, Dorothy invested in people and causes where she felt she could make a difference.
Dorothy was an active member at Bethany (formerly Beacon Avenue) United Church of Christ. She served as a board member and officer of both the Beacon Avenue Child Development Center and the Denise Louie Education Center for many years. She was also a member, and served as treasurer, of the Jefferson Park Lawn Bowling Club.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Bernard Bell. She is survived by daughters Jean Bell of Bellevue, Lois Harris (Bruce) of San Diego, and granddaughter Kenna Schultz (Jeff) of San Diego.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 16, at Bethany UCC, 6230 Beacon Ave. S., Seattle, WA, 98108. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dorothy's name may be made to (1) Bethany UCC, or (2) Washington State University, Gift Planning Office, P.O. Box 641925, Pullman, WA 99164-1925 (important to write "In memory of Dorothy S. Bell Endowment" on the memo line).
