Dr. Robert Joseph Zech, 88, of Seattle, Washington, passed away on April 1, 2013. Born January 7, 1925 in Seattle, Bob was the second of four sons of the late Lando W. Zech and Mae Munro Zech. He played football and baseball for the Washington Huskies, and played quarterback for the Husky team that went to the 1944 Rose Bowl. Bob was a member of the University of Washington ROTC and was commissioned an as Ensign in the Navy after graduation. He then served until the end of World War II on a ship in the South Pacific. On return from the war, he married his high school sweetheart, Marianne Harrison, and they had four children. He graduated from the University of Washington Dental School's first class in 1950. After many years of practicing general dentistry in Seattle, he became an orthodontist. He loved golfing, painting, bridge, reading, gardening and teaching. He is survived by his four children, Linde Burgess, Grady Zech, Gail Ragen and Bob Zech, Jr.; ten grandchildren, Rick and Tyler Burgess, Ramsey Coulson, Annie Averett, Peter, Ben and Leigh Grant, Elizabeth, Tommy and Andrew Zech; and five great grandchildren, August and Sophie Burgess, Claire Coulson, Tori and Bailey Averett and baby Edward Averett on the way. Bob was predeceased by his brothers, Lando and Jack, and is survived by his brother, Dr. Jerome Zech. There will be small family gatherings in both Washington and California honoring his life.
