Robert Gray SIMS|
Bob was born April 26th, 1927 to Clarence and Helen Sims in Aberdeen, WA. He died, surrounded by his family, on April 6th. Bob grew up in Aberdeen with his older brothers, Jim and Dick. After graduating from Weatherwax High School, where he was an All-State baseball catcher, he served in the U.S. Navy at the end of WWII. Bob graduated from the University of Oregon and was an ardent fan of both the Ducks and Seattle Mariners. Working as a stockbroker until his death, Bob never lost his interest in economic or current events, continuing to engage in spirited political discussions. He loved crossing the street from his home to Alki Beach, where he would sit on a bench, smoke a cigar, and watch the world walk, jog, and skate by.
Bob is survived by his brother Dick; children Jennifer, Andrea, Bob, Ben, and Bill; former wife, Helen; daughters-in-law Maria Sims and Kuri Teshome; sons-in-law Jamie Van De Vanter and Ethan Patashnik; and grandchildren Mara, Jordan, Max, Lindsey (Chad), Megan (Carlos), Joey, Daniel, Derek, David, Bailee, Maddy, Maleda, and Beruk. He will be missed and remembered with love
A memorial service will be held at 4:00pm on Saturday, May 18th at the Mercer Island Presbyterian Church.
