After a courageous battle with cancer, Louis J. Boitano passed away at age 64. He leaves behind wife Kathy, daughter Kristine, grandson Jack, four brothers, two sisters, and many nieces and nephews.
Born January 14, 1949, Louie was the oldest child of John and Judy Boitano. Louie attended Fife Schools, and worked summers on neighboring farms and for his parents' produce business.
Louie earned his Bachelors at UW, and Masters in Botany at Central Washington State. While working on a Doctorate, he decided to return to Fife to pursue farming. From scratch, Louie built a successful business with operations in Fife and Sumner. Louie loved being a husband and father, but his role as grandfather to Jack was very special. Family time was very important, vacationing on the Oregon Coast and Hawaii.
As running a family farm became increasingly difficult, with Kathy's support, Louie returned to school to study respiratory therapy, and upon graduation began work at the Pulmonary Clinic at UW Medical Center. Doing for others was Louie's calling as he thrived in this new career, and developed many close colleague friendships here and worldwide. Louie especially enjoyed a working relationship with Dr. Josh Benditt, and they co-wrote, published, and presented several papers on pulmonary care techniques. Louie was always focused on improving the quality of life for patients.
Louie was a role model, and his courage, compassion, faith, and intellect were great strengths. Louie will be greatly missed.
A celebration of Louie's life will be held Friday June 21st at St. Stephen's the Martyr Catholic Church in Renton, with a Rosary at 10:30 a.m., Mass at 11:00, and a luncheon following in the church hall.
We want to express our deep appreciation to Barry Bergner for his support of Louie and family during Louie's illness. We also thank Dr. Josh Benditt and the UW Medical Center staff for the care and compassion provided to Louie. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Louie's name to Northwest Assisted Breathing Center, c/o Monica Sawthrot at UW Medical, 1959 NE Pacific St., Seattle, WA 98195, or to St. Stephens Housing Association, 13055 SE 192nd St., Renton, WA, 98058.
