Shirley L. Caldwell|
Former Times Graphic Ad Artist, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2013. She was 84 years old, and retired from The Seattle Times in 1994. She was a UW Alumni, and was a fan of women's sports her entire life. An ardent outdoors woman and lifelong Democrat, Miss Caldwell was one of the founding members appointed to the Seattle Women's Commission. She was a lifelong member of the Newspaper Guild/CWA, and was elected as a Vice President of the National Union. She was a delegate to the MLK Central Labor Council in later years, representing diversity.
Shirley was predeceased by her life partner, Claudia Hansforth. She is survived by 1st, 2nd and 3rd cousins on both sides of her family, and numerous friends, both new and old. A memorial celebrating her life will be held after the new year, and will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Nature Conservancy.
