Rosalie (Rose) Alfred age 72 of Seattle, WA, passed away peacefully, on November 22, 2013 surrounded by loved ones. Born in Portland, OR, the family moved to Seattle shortly thereafter. Rose attended Holy Names Academy, and graduated from Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Spokane. She worked as a Registered Nurse at LA County General, Harbor View Medical Center and Group Health for the majority of her 45 year career. In the 1980's Rose was an expert and dedicated HIV/ AIDS nurse as well as an Union Organizer for SEUI 1199.
A lifetime Capitol Hill resident, Rose raised 3 children and half of the neighborhood. She married the love of her life Steve Alfred in 1982. She served as a trustee of Prospect Congregational Church, and on the Dan Klein scholarship board at The Evergreen State College.
Rose was a volunteer cook at Community Lunch at Central Lutheran, a longtime crew leader for Washington Trails Association, fundraiser for breast cancer, and a patron of the arts. She was an avid hiker and lover of all music and art. Rose was known for her love of gatherings with family and friends and hosted many a memorable celebration.
Rose was a loving mother, wife and friend to all. She lived a full, blessed life and will be greatly missed. Rose is survived by her husband Steve Alfred, brother Jerry Whalen, sons Sean and Ryan Fansler, daughter Sarah Lavin, daughters-in-law Amy Fansler and Amy Lemaire and son-in-law Joel Lavin.
