Edith Ann McElrath|
Edith Ann McElrath, age 86, a career librarian and avid adventurer, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013 among close friends in Bellingham, WA. She was born Feb. 9, 1927, in St. Paul, Minn., to Karl and Marion McElrath, graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in 1944 and from the University of Minnesota in 1948. After serving as a librarian in Minnesota and Iowa, she moved to Washington, where she worked 30 years in the Seattle Public Library system. Away from the library, she enjoyed spelunking, backpacking, traveling and photography, was a member of the Mountaineers, and loved animals.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert T. McElrath. Edith is survived by her sister, Jane M. Chavez, longtime friend Linda Williamson, four nephews, three grandnephews and seven grand nieces.
Services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bellingham, 1110 14th St., and an internment ceremony will be held in St. Paul, MN at a later date.
