Harold James Rowland Obituary
Harold James Rowland

Harold James Rowland was born on October 26, 1921 and passed away January 29, 2014. He was 92 and enjoyed a wonderful healthy life. He and his wife Lynn had many happy times together since they were married in 2007.

Jim Rowland was President and CEO of Rowland Motors, a family owned car dealership located on Capitol Hill in Seattle. Rowland Motors was established in 1920 by Harold "Hap" Rowland, Jim's father. For over 68 years the dealership sold and serviced new and used cars at its Pike Street location on the original Seattle "Auto Row". Jim went to work for his father at Rowland Motors shortly after serving in the Army Aircorps during World War II. He grew the business into one of the premier sports and luxury car dealerships in the Seattle area selling imports such as MG, Austin Healey, Triumph, Land Rover, Jaguar and Saab.

Jim was stationed in the Philippines during the war. He returned to the University of Washington earning his bachelors degree in Business. He belonged to Kappa Sigma fraternity and made many friends he kept contact with all his adult life. It was at a fraternity function that he met his future wife. He and Jeanne Krippner were married in 1947 and had three children Rick, Jay and Kerry. The family took many road trips to various parts of the country when the kids were little, and he and Jeanne traveled to Europe, Hawaii, and the Caribbean. Jim won two of those trips as the number one Jaguar dealer on the West Coast. They especially enjoyed England and went there many times. In 1990 he took a memorable trip to East Africa with his daughter Kerry. He visited Kerry and her family in Malaysia in 1997.

Jim had a very active lifestyle. Bike riding and running were his favorite activities. He enjoyed stamp collecting, Husky Football, and traveling to away-games with his wife Lynn. He was always up for doing things.

He is descended from the Kerry family who were instrumental in the development of early Seattle. He is preceded in death by his parents Harold Rowland and Elma Kerry Rowland, brother Jack, his wife Jeanne(1993)and companion Shirley Powers. He is survived by his sister Nancy LaRue, brother in law Everett Krippner, wife Lynn, his children Richard Rowland, Jay Rowland (Melodie) and Kerry Rowland Li, three grandchildren Jeffrey Li, Juliet Li and Kolby Rowland. Also survived by his sister's children Terry, Dana, and Susan LaRue and nieces/nephew Anne, Robert, Kathy, Gini and Merrielee Krippner and their children.

Jim was a great dad and husband, a warm and friendly person, kind and loving and loved by all. He will be terribly missed.
