Darin Chinn Obituary

Darin Dwayne Chinn

Darin Dwayne Chinn was born on December 5, 1965 in Seattle, Washington. He grew up in south Seattle, and attended Renton High School. Upon graduating in 1984, he joined the United States Marine Corps where he served in the military police until his honorable discharge in 1988. In 1989 he continued his lifelong passion of helping others and joined the Seattle Police Department.

In over 24 years of service in the SPD, Darin worked as a Patrol Officer, Community Officer, Officer Friendly, Officer on South & Southwest Anti-crime team, Narcotics Detective, and Detective with the Special Investigation Section-Vice unit.

Darin married Janine Kato in 1991 and enjoyed 23 wonderful years of marriage. During his free time Darin lived life to the fullest. He loved playing poker with his buddies, bowling, cycling, all things Elvis, collecting flashlights, and watching his beloved Mariners and Seahawks.

To his friends and co-workers, Darin was a hero. He always had a smile on his face, always had a good word for them, and always was a big kid. His sense of humor and smile lifted all who were around him. Appropriately, Darin's favorite superhero was Captain America. To all who loved him, he was our superhero-protecting, encouraging, and inspiring us.

Darin went to be with the Lord on February 15, 2014. We take comfort that he is with God, and that there is another guardian at heaven's gate.

A celebration of his Darin's life will be held Thursday, February 27 at 3:00pm at the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Academy, 19010 1st Avenue South, Burien WA.

Remembrances may be sent to RMH Holiday Cruise, 9805 NE 116th St, PMB 7414, Kirkland, WA 98034 or Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarrior.org.

Janine and family, I throughly enjoyed the card games, and just knowing Darin from work and from the outside activities(bowling, golf, etc,). He will be greatly missed, and went too soon, but he is in a better place now. Again, my sincere condolences to you Janine, and the family.
