Martha Goldstein

Martha Svendsen Goldstein, 94, of Seattle, died peacefully at home on Friday, February 14, 2014 after a long illness. She was born on 6/10/1919 in Baltimore, MD. Martha was an accomplished American harpsichord player and pianist. She was trained at the Peabody Conservatory and at the Juilliard School. She taught at the Peabody Conservatory for 20 years and at the Cornish College of the Arts. She gave solo performances in the United States, North Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, and performed as a guest artist with the University of Washington's Soni Ventorum Wind Quintet. (Also see wikipedia.org/wiki/Martha_Goldstein.) Recordings of her work, found at commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Martha_Goldstein, reflect historically informed performance, with original period instruments and tunings.

Martha was predeceased by her son, Stephen Svendsen. She is survived by her husband of more than 50 years, Allen A. Goldstein; her son, Lawrence Svendsen; her stepchildren Walter Goldstein, Julie Newman, Pauline Yuhas and Phyllis Radke; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A private ceremony will be held at a later date.
