Robert A SHORT, PhD|
February 27, 1936-March 18, 2014
"A man of integrity, humor, love, intelligence, courage, and dedication"
(From a plaque given to him by the staff and students of Shoreline HS)
Dr. Short passed away peacefully from complications of congestive heart failure.
Bob was part of the third generation of his family to be raised in Redmond. He attended Lake Washington HS and went on to earn a BA, MA, and PhD from the University of Washington. Bob enjoyed a 29 year career in the Shoreline School District as a math teacher, coach, counselor, assistant principal, and principal. Bob was principal of Shoreline High School and then Shorewood High School before his retirement in 1990. While waiting for Maureen to retire, he served as principal at Faith Lutheran School in Redmond.
In retirement, Bob and Maureen traveled extensively, most often following the Husky football team (of which he was an avid fan) and spending time on Kauai where they hiked and made many friends. Bob played several years for the Hornets Senior Softball Team. A wonderful grandfather, he was immensely proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed many years of shared adventures with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mamie and Cliff English; his sister, Mary Jane Costello; and his cherished granddaughter, Georgia Newton.
Bob leaves behind Maureen, his wife of 31 years; his children, Charlene Short and David Short; his grandchildren, Jack and Wynne Newton; and numerous family and friends.
A celebration of Bob's life will be held April 26th, 11:00 am in the Shoreline Room at Shoreline Center, 18560 lst Ave NE, Shoreline, WA
