Donald F. Benson

Don passed away after a short illness on June 2, 2014, in Seattle at the age of 92. He was born on February 5, 1922, in Tacoma, Washington to Lithuanian immigrant parents. He graduated from Stadium HS in Tacoma and business school in Seattle. During World War II, Don served in the US Army with the Alaska Communications System (ACS). At ACS he met Margie, his wife of almost 69 years. Don enjoyed a successful career with the IRS and retired from the federal government after 35 years of service with numerous achievement awards. Don had a passion for sports his entire life and played minor league baseball in Tacoma in his younger years. During his life he enjoyed golfing, bowling, and gardening and was an avid reader. Don was sweet and caring and always willing to help others with a smile.

Don is survived by his loving wife Marjorie, twin daughters and their husbands Deborah Cook (Jim), Kathleen Keul (Per-Odd), grandsons Jack Cook (Brendan), James Cook (Lonnie), Phillip Keul and great-grandson Ethan Cook. There will be a private family gathering to celebrate Don's life. Memorials may be made to the Northwest Hospital in Seattle. An inurnment service will be held Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Evergreen Washelli Cemetery.
