Michael Culver Obituary

Michael David Culver

Michael (Mike) Culver, age 63, passed away on January 20th after a 2-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Mike was born on January 8, 1952 in Madison, Wisconsin, the son of Carol and David Culver.

A lifetime pilot, Mike graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and began a career in his family's electrical supply business, Culver Electric. He married Karin Evensta in 1983, and they moved to Washington shortly after starting their family, in 1987. He and Karin raised their family in Redmond and he was active in Bellevue First Congregational Church. He ran the computer system for a distribution business before moving to Microsoft to work as a software evangelist. Most recently, he worked at Amazon Web Services, where he earned the respect and esteem of his colleagues. He loved clearing his calendar on sunny afternoons to fly to Orcas Island and other places for a bite to eat. His son Patrick also became a pilot, and they flew to Alaska for a memorable vacation.

Mike is survived by his wife of 31 years, Karin Evensta of Redmond, and their children, Patrick Culver and Anna Culver. He is also survived by his son, Tom Sharp; his father David; brothers Tom and Robbie Culver; and his sisters Jo MacDonald, Joyce Clark, and Barb Alderete.

The family wishes to thank Evergreen Hospice for their care and support in the last days of Mike's life.

A memorial service will be held this Sunday, February 15, at 2:00 p.m. at Bellevue First Congregational Church, 752 - 108th Ave. NE, Bellevue. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Angel Flight are welcome. www.angelflight.com

I met Mike towards the start of my career when he worked at Microsoft. He was kind and supportive, giving of himself and was a delight to be with and an inspiration. We continued corresponding via email long after I moved on to other companies and after he left Microsoft. I didn't get a chance to offer condolences earlier, but I have to say, Mike touched on people far and wide and he's missed.

So sorry to hear about Mike passing. I also met Mike through VAF and we emailed each other quite often. I notified the forum after his passing but just found this site. Best wishes and our pryers are with Mikes family. I miss his friendship, but thankful for the chance I had to know him. Rockwoodrv9a from Meridian ID

I had met Mike through the Van's Air Force site and had exchanged correspondence with him over the years.

I had the pleasure of finally meeting Mike in person at the Van's dinner at OSH in 2012. He was escorting an older gentleman, whose name escapes me at the moment, that was a friend of the person that accompanied me to OSH. We ended up sitting together for dinner.

A nicer person, you'll never meet.

My condolences to his family and friends
