Wilma Haslund Obituary

Wilma Baxter Haslund

In the early morning of May 28, 2015, Wilma Baxter Haslund passed away peacefully of natural causes. Wilma was being visited and comforted by family members at Horizon House Assisted Living Care Facility in Seattle, Washington at the time of her passing. Wilma was 97 years old.

Wilma was born in Seattle on October 16, 1917, the daughter of Alice and William Baxter. A graduate of Queen Anne High School, Wilma studied architecture at The University of Washington, where she also became a loyal football fan of the Huskies, and later of the Seahawks.

Her loved ones say she was the crossword and Scrabble queen and their "walking dictionary". She was a lifelong passionate reader, and passed the love of reading along to her kids and grandkids. Travel delighted her, all over the world, and lots of her reading choices provided history for her journeys. A lover of music, Wilma knew and always sang songs with her family, especially the American Standards of her youth. She also attended and supported many seasons of local drama and ballet.

Wilma is survived by two daughters, Riana Haslund and Susan Hall (Tom Huse), and two sons, Bill Haslund (Cam) and Lance Haslund (Laurie); five granddaughters: Shannon Bassett (David), Robin Tarte (Jim), Sara Hall, Lena Draper (Derek) and Kelly Wheeler (Sam); two grandsons: Brian Hall (Mindy Ziffren-Hall) and Arne Haslund (Amy); four great granddaughters and two great grandsons, plus another great grandchild coming soon.

Wilma was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Fred K. Haslund, Jr. It was a love match throughout.

The family warmly thanks the caregivers, professionals and staff of Horizon House for the many years of loving and respectful friendship given to our precious Mom and Grandma.

The family requests any memorial donations to Horizon House in Seattle, or a charity of your choice.
