James Edward Deal Obituary
James Edward Deal

James Edward Deal was born on December 15, 1933 in Newark, Ohio, to Robert Fitzsimmons Deal and Ethel Fern Hall. Jim was raised by his mother and step-father, Harry Hillard Gill.

After college, Jim enlisted in the United States Air Force. In 1958 he met and married Mary Ann Higbee of Salt Lake City, Utah. They were eventually sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Jim rose to the rank of Colonel. His career was as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer. He retired from the Air Force in 1989, after more than 34 years on active duty. Shortly thereafter, Jim was hired by Boeing as a Logistics Analyst on the F-22 Raptor program retiring in February 2011.

Jim and Mary Ann were blessed with a son, Michael Higbee Deal (wife Kyle Marie Shumway), and a daughter, Marianne Yvonne Deal Yule, 7 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. About six weeks after their Golden Wedding Anniversary, his beloved Mary Ann passed away suddenly. That was a difficult time for Jim.

On March 24, 2012, Jim married Karolyn Jean Langford Walden in the Seattle Washington Temple. His family grew, adding three daughters; Laura Walden Anderson (husband Duwayne); Krista Walden Nelson (husband Gary}; and Kaylie Walden Streibel (husband Tedd); 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Jim was a man of great faith who set a remarkable example for others. He loved his Savior and he loved his family. Jim was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jim and Karolyn were active in Wrinkles of Washington (WOW), a group of senior performers. They also loved bicycling and snow shoeing.

Jim passed away on January 31, 2017 after a courageous, year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his wife and children, his older brother, Robert (wife Marlene McCullough) and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
