Joshua Laff Obituary

Joshua Laff

Mr. Joshua Laff, son of Charles "Pat" Laff and Lynda Laff lost his battle with ALS Sunday, February 26, 2017. Joshua was born November 21, 1972 in Northbrook, Illinois. Joshua had many diverse interests and many, many friends across the country that loved him and maintained contact with him throughout his struggles with this devastating disease. He was a kind, gentle soul who exhibited fierce strength of will during his struggle with this relentless disease. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him. As one friend so eloquently put it "there is a Josh-shaped hole in the world today". Joshua was predeceased by his mother Judi Laff.

He is survived by his father, Pat, brother Mike Laff, stepmother Lynda, stepsister Anna Doyle, stepbrother Josh Goodner, nieces, nephews. He is also survived by Uncles Scott (Deb), Gary, Ned (Chris) Laff and Cousins, Rachel Laff Martin (Noah), Eleanor Laff (Jeremiah Leeson) and Rebecca Laff.

The family wants to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Ogeechee Area Hospice for the loving, thoughtful care provided to Joshua throughout his stay. Although Josh's family and friends will privately celebrate his life in many ways, by his request there will be no formal services.

Josh and his family request all memorials be sent to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30459.

Josh, or "Tarzan" as he was nicknamed in college was one of my Pi Lam big brothers. Due to my long hair, same first name and "quirkiness" that was similar to Josh's, I got the nickname "Cheetah." He was a great guy and taught me a few good college lessons while he was still there. We all loved that he wasn't afraid of being different, especially in a fraternity. Be at peace, big bro.

It was incredibly sad to hear about Josh. He was a member of our gaming community on XBox and he had a lot of friends here. We've posted a message on our group forum (of which he was an active participant) letting our other members know. He will be sorely missed by all of us. Our thoughts and sincerest sympathies go out to his family.

There is something to be said about your first crush and love..."You will never forget it". Joshua was the first boy I ever fell in love with. I was 7, and we were in 2nd grade. I remember I was so smitten, I had to tell the world. I wrote down everything I felt, brought him up front of the class, one day for show & tell, and read it out loud to the entire class. Upon conclusion, I kissed him. Although, we were both embarrassed by the end of the day, since everyone throughout the school was talking about it, it began a 4 year "courtship" (the best you can have under the age of 10) for which I always think back to and remember fondly. I lost touch with Joshua, the summer before high school, we re-connected , about 4 years ago. Although, we didn't have much in common,at that point, he did surprise me by calling me on my birthday that year. We talked for hours. It was one of the best birthday surprises I ever had. I'm glad I had the opportunity to share things with him, and reiterate the feelings I once had for him, and let him know he'll always have a place in my heart. Joshua was a survivor, strong, intelligent, an inspiration, and a truly genuine soul. Thank you, Joshua , for making this world a better place, and touching my life. You were special. I will miss you dearly. You left us too soon. You will always be remembered by the little blond haired, blue-eyed girl, whose heart you won, those many years ago. Rest in Peace, Joshua. God Bless.

Pat and Linda;
There are places in your heart that will forever treasure Josh's love and strength.
There are places in your mind that will forever remember his stories and his humor.
Memories of Josh will always hold an important place in your life.
The love you shared will keep him close forever.
My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family at this time of your loss.
With deepest sympathy,
Cousin David.
