George Goll Obituary

George Edmund Goll, BDS, MSD

George was born in London, England, in 1951 to Edmund and Halina Goll. Edmund served in the Polish Army during World War II and immigrated to England in 1947 with Halina and their only child at the time, Hania. As a result, George grew up in a household filled with Polish influence, from language to participation in the Polish Boy Scouts to neighborhood bazaars and holiday celebrations. George was one of four siblings and maintained a close relationship with all of them throughout his life.

When it came time to choose a career, George decided to pursue dentistry and earned a place at University College Hospital London where he excelled as a student. After completing his dental undergraduate degree in 1974, he was selected to become House Officer and then Senior House Officer at UCH, an 18-month internship that eventually fueled his desire to pursue a postgraduate master's degree. During this time, George maintained a real interest in athletics. He grew up cycling and racing with his father and brother in London-based clubs, ran the London Marathon, and upon entering university, started rowing competitively. He held a record at the prestigious Henley Royal Regatta for over 20 years and represented Great Britain's national rowing squad in Europe.

In 1978, George left London to obtain a postgraduate degree at the University of Washington School of Dentistry. It was while pursuing a doctorate in prosthodontics that he met his wife, Rebecca, who was studying to become an endodontist at the same time. The two married in 1981 and had three children together: Amanda, Emily, and Spencer. George went on to start a successful private practice in downtown Seattle. He had a commitment to continuing education in his profession and was an active member of the Pacific Coast Society of Prosthodontics and the Washington State Society of Prosthodontics. He was also named a Diplomat for the American Board of Prosthodontics, an honor that is bestowed only after examination.

George's greatest passion was always for family and friends. He had an active social life and liked to spend his leisure time cycling with local clubs in the Seattle area, riding motorbikes with his son, and going on ski trips that took him all around the world. He had a thirst for adventure, something that stayed with him even when battling cancer towards the end of his life. His friends will remember him as somebody that was always quick with a joke and willing to lend a hand when needed. George will be sorely missed by those who knew him. He is survived by his three children, Amanda, Emily, and Spencer, his siblings, Hania, Grazyna, and Andrew, and his nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at St. Bridget's Catholic Church on May 5, 2017 at 11am. All who knew George are encouraged to come. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that those wishing to show their support send donations to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. The family would also like to thank Dr. Cristina Rodriguez and all other providers who gave him excellent care while undergoing treatment.

Just heard the sad news. I knew Dr. Goll from working in the Med Dent Building for 20 years and treating his kids. He was always so positive, cheerful and had an awesome sense of humor! Such a wonderful man that had been through some very difficult times. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered...

I'm so sorry to hear about George. He was the most interesting man I ever met. The best storyteller and conversationalist. Funny and fun to have a beer and conversation with. The best kind of soul. I will miss you.

I knew George from around 1967. He joined the Glendene Cycling Club and was a well respected member. Had a great sense of humor and patience. I will always remember when he was over in England for a trip and Betty and I met him at The Cock pub in Henham, Essex. After a long chat we got on the tandem to leave and his parting words to us in a friendly manner were: STRANGE COUPLE..........A man never to forget was George. We all loved him.

"And let perpetual light shine upon him". I've known George since his early days in his practice while in practice with Charlie Swope. I will truly miss him. He was kind, funny and caring. He had a wonderful sense of humor and always a smile. Amanda he would be so proud of you and your siblings. May God bless all of you. Prayers and Masses have been offered for the repose of his soul. A truly great guy. I only met George in the latter years of his life through his brother Andrew and I regret not having met him sooner. We had a week touring on the bikes in France in 2015 and repeated in 2016. Despite his illness his droll sense of humour shone through. He will be sadly missed by all who new him and more so by Andrew.

Another of my heroes has fallen. George was one of the kindest and most generous souls I've ever known. As a friend he was kind, complimentary and supportive when you least expected it. A truly remarkable human being.
I'll miss you George.

there are good guys and there are bad guys
George was one of the best, modest, always liked a laugh, a great sportsman, caring, one of the pact. On tour he was a great person to have around, with a quick quip always at hand. Even when I ran over his foot with his brothers car he dismissed it as if was nothing I will miss him greatly.

George was a wonderful father who cherished his children. He was devoted to his wife. I will always remember how he supported her and included her in social events related to their children when her health was compromised.

George was a lovely person! When he was a grad student in Pros, I was a secretary in the department and got to know him. Always full of laughs, he was a smart and caring guy. He brought much joy to those around him. Pros is kind of a stodgy specialty, but not so with George. My thoughts and prayers to his family. I realize they lost his wife/mom in the past several years which must make this loss especially hard.
