Jacque McCoid Cowherd died October 5, 2013 at the University of Missouri Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Jacque was born January 5, 1926 at home, in Sedalia, Missouri, to Allen McCoid and Farrie F. Lawson Cowherd.
He attended Whittier Elementary School and graduated from Smith-Cotton High School with the Class of 1943. Being young for the draft, he worked at the Missouri Pacific Shops one year before joining the United States Navy. Jacque served on the LST 590 during the WWII in the South Pacific. He later worked thirty- seven (37) years for the United States Postal Service in Sedalia.
Jacque was married to D. Pauline Wadell on June 24, 1950, in Warrensburg, Missouri who preceded him in death, September 23, 2009. They are the parents of three children: son, Dr. Jacque A. Cowherd (wife Karen), Fulton, MO., daughter, Cathleen A. Watts (husband Steven), Alpharetta, GA, and daughter, Susan L. Duckworth (husband Michael), Springfield, MO. Their six grandchildren include: Sara L. Wilson (husband Jason), St. Louis, MO.; Allen M. Cowherd, Corpus Christi TX; Clayton S. Watts and Spencer M. Watts, Alpharetta, GA.; Cole M. Duckworth (wife Corinne), Richardson, TX; and Rachel L. Duckworth, Kansas City, MO; and great granddaughter, Addison L. Wilson, St. Louis, MO.
At an early life, Jacque was baptized in the 2nd Congregational Church at Sedalia, MO. He was a member of the First Methodist Church.
Surviving are sisters: Dorothy Berry (husband John), and Mary Ford, plus numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding him in death are his parents, brothers William L. Cowherd and Harold L. Cowherd, sister Marjorie H. Hedrick, and son-in-law Michael A. Duckworth.
He loved his family and always glad to see them. He enjoyed making a small garden and going fishing. He will be missed.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Downing, Jr. officiating. Pallbearers will include Grandchildren. Never was there a nicer, more likeable family than the Cowherds! I am sorry for your loss, Jacque, Cathy (Cow) and Sue. I am so happy to have the great memories that I have from being with you guys as we grew up. I enjoyed knowing you from First Methodist Church, the Surf Club, Smith Cotton, and from years of friendship. What a marvelous day it is in heaven when your Dad, your Mom and Lady are reunited. My prayers are with you and I love you!
