Earle C. Miller, Jr., age 79, of La Monte, MO, passed away Friday, November 8, 2013, as the result of an automobile accident south of Knob Noster, MO
He was born December 19, 1933, in Kearney, MO, the son of Earle C. and Virginia Louise (Hulett) Miller, Sr.
On June 19, 1959, he was united in marriage to Mary E. Faulconer in Houstonia, MO.
Earle was a graduate of La Monte High School, class of 1951. He drove a grain truck for the La Monte Elevator for several years and later worked at Alcan Cable in Sedalia, where he retired. Earle also raised cattle on the family farm. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. He was a member of the La Monte United Methodist Church.
As a young man, Earle enjoyed hunting quail and fishing. He was an avid reader and would finish several novels each week, with his favorite topics being the history of war and aviation. He also enjoyed woodworking, especially working with walnut. Earle had a sharp wit and good sense of humor. He enjoyed sharing tales at the farmers' breakfasts.
He loved his wife and was very proud of his daughters and their husbands. Earle took great joy in his beloved grandson, Benjamin. He was a 21 year cancer survivor. Earle faced many trials in his life, but always kept his sense of humor. He is at peace now in his eternal home. He never let a loved one leave without telling them to "be careful."
Earle is survived by his wife Mary; two daughters, Carol Harbaugh and husband Stephen of Lee's Summit, MO, and Linda Harris and husband Shawn of La Monte, MO; one brother, Allen Miller and wife Irene of Grain Valley, MO; and one grandson, Benjamin Harris of La Monte, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one half-brother, William Benjamin Miller; one half-sister, Junietta Walker; and a stillborn son.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 14, 2013, at the Moore Funeral Home in La Monte, MO, with Reverend Gene Smith officiating. Pallbearers will be Rick Harvey, Don Sullivan, David Gerken, Jack Hall, Gary Charles, and Daniel Hughes.
Interment will follow at La Monte Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
