Edna Alice Smith(1923)

Edna Alice Smith, 89, of Cole Camp, died Friday, November 30, 2012, at Good
Samaritan Care Center, Cole Camp. She was born on September 18, 1923, at
LaJunta, Colorado, a daughter of Glenn E. and Delia Alice (Braden) Denton.

When she was three months old, the family moved to Windsor, Missouri. In
1939, she was baptized at Flat Creek near Windsor. Where she spent her
childhood and graduated from high school in 1941. She earned many awards in
trap for sharpshooting.

On September 18, 1941, in Windsor, she was united in marriage to Glenn Lee
Smith. After their marriage, the couple lived in Windsor and she worked for
the shoe factory there. While her husband was in the US Navy, she moved to
Washington and San Diego, CA, to be close to him. After the war ended and
her husband was discharged from the service, they moved back to Windsor and
she worked at International Shoe Factory. In the early 1960's, she worked
as a switch board operator and milked cows on the farm close to town.

In 1962, they moved to Independence, MO, where she worked for Borden Company
for three years and attended business college. In May of 1968, they moved
to their farm south of Cole Camp near Mt. Hulda. Later that year, she was
confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cole Camp. For two years, she
worked for Paul Holtzen at MFA Insurance in Cole Camp. In the early 1970's,
she began working as a machine quilter at Smithson Manufacturing in Stover.
After 20 years of quilting at Smithson, she retired in the early 90's. She
and Glenn spent three summers working as grounds keepers for Heit's Point of
rural Lincoln.

Alice was a member of the Mt. Hulda Lutheran Church, rural Cole Camp, and
belonged to the Ladies Aid. She and Glenn spent twelve years wintering in
Arizona, where she learned the art of making stained glass, basket weaving,
and clogging. She enjoyed reading and quilting.

She is survived by: two daughters, Alice Byerley and her husband Bob of
Lee's Summit and Deborah Eckhoff and her husband Rodger of Cole Camp;
one son, Glenn L. Smith II and his wife Carolyn of Lee's Summit;
seven grandchildren, Randa, Kevin, Krista, Heather, Leslie,
Brian and Aaron; and fifteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn on August 24, 2004, her
parents, Glenn and Delia Denton, her son, Gary Lee Smith, her step-sister,
Annetta Carter, and her step-brother, Charles Carter.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at
Mt. Hulda Lutheran Church, rural Cole Camp, with Pastor Allen Braun
officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hulda Lutheran Cemetery, rural Cole
Camp.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Tuesday
at the church.

The family suggests memorial contributions be given to Mt. Hulda Lutheran
Church or the Lutheran School Association in care of the Fox Funeral Home,
Cole Camp.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Smith, Brian Smith, Aaron Smith, Kurt Thompson,
Ron Poe, Ryan Oelrichs, and Andrew Hesse.
