Everett G. Stumpf, age 96, formerly of Sedalia passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2012, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg. He was born on November 3, 1916, in Manhattan, New York, son of George and Rita McCluney Stumpf. He was married on July 8, 1945, in Sedalia to Sylvia V. Dyer, and she preceded him in death on May 6, 1989.
Everett was raised and educated in Sedalia, and graduated from Smith-Cotton High School in 1936. He worked for North American Aviation in Kansas City, Missouri before entering the service. He served in the Army
Air Corp during W W ll. Everett worked for P. Hoffman Hardware in Sedalia as a Salesman and Bookkeeper, retiring in 1978, after thirty years of service. He was a member of the First Christian Church, where he served as an Elder and Deacon. He was a sixty year member of the American Legion Post, and was a past member of the Sunrise Optimist Club, Senior Citizen Bowling League, and the Knife & Fork Club where he served as President from 1979 -1980. Everett was an avid gardener, loved to travel, and also enjoyed playing horseshoes, croquet, an ping pong. After retiring, he sharpened saws, scissors and knives at his home as a small business.
He is survived by one daughter, Virginia (Ginne) Ryan, and her husband, Larry, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and a grandson, Christopher J. Ryan of Arlington, Virginia.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 6, 2012, at First Christian Church with Rev. Chad McMullin officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until service time.
Serving as active pallbearers will be: Stephen Ryan, Kyle Herrick, William Konrad, Richard Cuba, Christopher Ryan, and Larry Ryan. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Ed Kirby, Walter McBride, Warren Semler, Dale Arnett, Mike Mittenburg, Walter Baker,
Bob Edmondson, and Mark Callis. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery in Barnett, Missouri. Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church in care of the funeral home.
