GREEN RIDGE — J.C. Hunton, 88, of Green Ridge, Missouri, died Saturday evening, April 5, at Landmark Hospital in Columbia, Mo.
He was born January 18, 1926, in Columbia, Mo., the son of William Harold Hunton and Bessie Irene (Brim) Hunton. On May 22, 1954, at the Broadway Presbyterian Church in Sedalia, Mo., he married Marjorie Pauline Helphrey, who survives of the home.
J.C. was a farmer and a dairyman for most of his working life. After his retirement he was the caretaker of the Green Ridge Cemetery for 19 years and also worked as a farm hand for Reed Farms. He was an Army Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict, and a member of the George T. Murphy American Legion #491, Green Ridge, Mo. He was also a long-time member of the Green Ridge Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon, Trustee and Ruling Elder. J.C. enjoyed going to the Missouri State Fair, in Sedalia, and he worked at the Highway Gardens for several years. He also relished Hershey's Kisses and going to horse shows.
In addition to his wife, J.C. is survived by a son, Doug Hunton (Brenda), Windsor, Mo.; 2 daughters, Susan Jones (Boyd), Sweet Springs, Mo.; Karen Fox (Michael), Warrensburg, Mo.; 4 grandchildren, Justine Fox; Kristin Jones; Kendra Fox; Dustin Gehlken; a brother, Gerald Clayton Hunton (Faye), Sedalia, Mo.; 2 nephews, Aaron Hunton (Melissa); Tom Hunton (Sue); 4 nieces, Sharon Bruner (Cliff); Lawrencine Gerke (Phil); Billie Kay McNamara; Beverly Hunton; Deanna Hathaway (Ron); numerous great-nieces and great nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews and cousins. J.C. was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Bill Hunton; Everett Hunton; a sister, Vernadean Funk; 2 nephews, Daren Hunton; Kent Funk.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014 at the Green Ridge Presbyterian Church, Green Ridge, with Pastors Randy and Dianna Marcum officiating. Burial will be in the Green Ridge Cemetery, Green Ridge.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor.
