Jerry Clyde Gemes, 59, of Waterloo, Iowa formerly of Knob Noster, passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at his residence.
Jerry was born July 15, 1953 in Myrtle Point, Oregon, son of Junior C. and Jean R. (Wise) Gemes. At the age of three, upon the untimely death of his father, he moved with his mother back to her home area of Knob Noster. His mom married Bus Everts, who raised Jerry as his own. He graduated from Knob Noster High School. Jerry was united in marriage to Deborah Kay Tucker on June 12, 1971 in Knob Noster. At the age of fourteen, he went to work for Leon Nace Excavating. In 1980, he started A-1 Concrete & Excavating, which he continued to own and operate until 2009, due to health reasons. In 2009, the couple moved to Scottsbluff, Nebraska, where Jerry became a feedlot construction manager. They have resided in Waterloo, Iowa since 2011, where he worked for Stickfort Construction. He loved fishing and following his children's & grandchildren's ball games. In addition to the love of construction, Jerry also loved farming, and farmed for many years. Jerry was also a state licensed sewer inspector and installer for the state of Missouri.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie; four children: Chad Richard Gemes of Centerview, MO; Jason Cole Gemes of Lee's Summit, MO; Autum Kay Gemes of Ashland, MO, and Michelle Lynn Gemes of Lee's Summit, MO; his mother, Jean Everts of Knob Noster; two brothers: A.J. Gemes (Judy) of Lee's Summit, MO, and Ricky Everts (Connie) of Barbstown, KY; two sisters: Kathy Schroeder (David) of Knob Noster, MO and Debbie Thompson (Terry) of La Monte, MO; ten grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, Jerry was preceded in death by his stepfather, Bus Everts, and two infant brothers: Lonnie and Donnie.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 21, 2012, at Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg, with Larry Ficken officiating.
Interment will follow in New Church Cemetery, south of Knob Noster. Pallbearers will be: Chad Gemes, Jason Gemes, Keith Dale Thompson, Randy Rittman, Gary Judd, and Bill Crawford. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
