Melvin L. Becker, Jr., 63, of Sedalia, passed away at his home on Monday, November 29, 2010. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 30, 1947, the son of Melvin L., Sr. and Clara L. (Lump) Becker. Melvin and Maxine Duncan were married on January 16, 1965.
Melvin was saved and baptized as a young man in Union, MO. He loved music, especially playing the guitar and banjo, and he was always eager to spend his time looking for treasures with his metal detector.
Melvin loved to laugh and loved a good joke. He was full of life and never let life get him down. His family drew on his strengths many times. He taught them all how to laugh and not take life too seriously.
Melvin worked for and then retired from the Pettis County Road and Bridge Department. He was one of their truck drivers.
Melvin is survived by his wife Maxine; 1 son, Rodger L. Becker of Sedalia; 1 daughter, Rachel Becker and husband Larry Harvey of Lincoln; 2 granddaughters, Jaelene and Katey Becker; 2 sisters, Meta Miranda of Hillsboro, MO and Charlotte Landolfi of California; his sister-in-law, Della Ney and her husband Paul of Mineral Point, MO; his brother-in-law Ward Duncan and wife Kathy of Washington, MO and his brother-in-law, Neil Duncan of Lonedell, MO.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Tim Becker.
Funeral services will be at 2:00PM, Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Downing officiating. Pallbearers will be Jody Brawley, Michael Kearney, Jeffery Kearney, Teddy Don Kearney, Tony Boyer and James Boyer. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
The Becker family will receive friends from 1:00PM until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.
