Mildred May Eckles(1921 - 2013)

Mildred May Eckles, 91, of Hughesville, Mo passed away Sunday, September 15, 2013 at her home. She was born on October 17, 1921 in Sedalia a daughter of Cebe and Doris Stark Brownfield.

On March 15, 1943, she was united in marriage to Ernest Eckles, who preceded her in death on December 12, 2009.

She was a long time member of Dresden Baptist Church. Upon its closing she began attending Bethel United Methodist Church of Hughesville. She was a member of the United Methodist Women's group. Mildred was getting ready for church on the morning that she died. She loved her garden and flowers. She was a wonderful conversationalist and many people commented on how they loved talking with her. She made many quilts and every one of her children, grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren received at least one from her as gifts. Mildred never let her homemade cookies run out in the carton on her kitchen table, because a hungry grandchild or neighbor might happen to stop by and need at least one. She was a very giving person, and even in death she is still giving; because she donated her body to science at the University of MO in Columbia.

She is survived by a son, Carl (Shorty) Eckles, and his wife, Melinda (Rusty) of Sedalia; a daughter, Karen Powell, and her husband Glenn of Hughesville; five grandchildren: Sherry (Chris ) Gorrell, Angela (Tim) Ehlers, Jacob Eckles, Zebulon Eckles, Abraham (Addison) Eckles; one grandson-in-law, Steven Lane; seven great grandchildren: Stephanie (Dustin) Morey, Kayla Lane, Marissa Gorrell, Amber Gorrell, Kelsey Ehlers, Jessica Ehlers and Abiner Eckles; one great-great grandson, Wyatt Kidder.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Janet Lane and a brother, Clyde Brownfield.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Bethel United Methodist Church, Hughesville, MO with Pastor Casey Henry officiating.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 am until service time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Bethel United Methodist Church in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
