Reuben H. "Butch" Blankenship, IV, 58, of Sedalia, died Tuesday, July 17, 2012 in Sedalia.
He was born April 9, 1954, in Sedalia, the son of Reuben H. and Nina Mae (Cochran) Wimer Blankenship.
Reuben was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather and friend. Reuben worked for the City of Sedalia for 35 years as a Lab Technician and served in the U.S. Army for 4 years. He was a huge NASCAR fan, MU Football and Basketball fan, and loved the ability and craftmanship he demonstrated with his woodworking projects and the four homes that he built in his lifetime. He was an active member of the American Legion and had an easy-going demeanor that his family and friends enjoyed.
Reuben is survived by his son, K. Mike Blankenship and his wife, Heather, of Blue Springs; his daughter, Kristina Klein; his sister, Connie Purchase; 2 brothers: Michael L. Blankenship and his wife, Sally, of Sedalia and Galen R. Blankenship and his wife, Trish, of Jacksonville, FL; 3 grandchildren: Bryce and Brannock Blankenship and Gage Edwards; and 18 nieces and nephews.
Reuben was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be at 2:00p.m., Saturday, July 21, 2012 at Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home, with Rev. W. Scott Purchase officiating. Pallbearers will be Dean Purchase, Jon Purchase, Brad Blankenship, Randy Woodall, Darrin Ross and Arnie Wilson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Roger Viets, Larry Perriquey, Dave Gerken, Linda Reid, Rick Zumwalt and Raymond McNish.
Burial will be in Highland Sacred Gardens.
Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00p.m. on Friday, July 20, 2012 at the funeral home.
