Walter E. Baker, 84, of Sedalia, died on Sunday, December 30, 2012 in Warrensburg. He was born June 5, 1928, the only child of Boyd and Mildred (Fish) Baker. Walter and Donna Wenger were married on October 29, 1950 in Hiawatha KS. Mrs. Baker survives of the home.
Walter grew up in Hiawatha. His childhood friend Keith Widman and he were like brothers for more than seventy years. He enlisted in the Army/Air Force and served 3 years as an airplane mechanic. He was stationed at Fort Walton/Eglin Air Force Base near Pensacola, FL. Walter was an over the road truck driver for many years before retiring in 1990. After retiring, Donna and he were able to do some traveling and visit family and friends. He continued to work part time for a local farmer.
Walter was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed his family and would take his children with him on his trips over the holidays. When they were not with him, Walter really enjoyed coming home to his family. He was very out going and never met a stranger. He was a Mason in Sedalia.
Walter enjoyed camping, fishing, roller skating and dancing. Walter was a mentor to many young men, teaching them as they worked side by side. He was like a big brother sharing his knowledge about all things mechanical.
In addition to his wife, Donna, Walter is survived by his children: Roger Baker, and his wife, Vicki, Theresa Fuller, and her husband, Terry, and Bonnie Adcox; 7 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law: Della Darling and Patricia and William Roberts, and brother-in-law, Dave Bettge.
