Wilbur Rhea Hall, 67, of La Monte, MO, departed this life on Friday, February 22, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family members after a yearlong battle against cancer.
He was born November 29, 1945, in Sedalia, MO, the son of Willard and Tilberry and Lucile Frances DeLapp Hall.
On December 6, 1963, in Calhoun, MO, he was united in marriage to Judy Marie Short, who survives of the home.
Wilbur graduated from La Monte High School, class of 1963 and a 1990 graduate of State Fair Community College where he earned a professional certificate in auto mechanics. He retired from General Motors
Fairfax Plant in 1997 after 30 years of service. He went back to work for Guardsman Security until he was forced to retire because of his health one year ago. He was a member of UAW local Union Numbers 93 and 31.
Rhea was known as a "shade tree mechanic" in his younger days. He enjoyed being outside and doing his work. He also enjoyed tinkering with lawnmowers and weed eaters and getting them back in working order. He had a fondness and love for cats and you could call him a cat whisperer.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Lisa Rhea Lazenby and husband Jeff of Sedalia, MO; one son, Howard Eugene Hall and wife Julie of Lee's Summit, MO; five grandchildren, Nicholas Hugh Sullivan, Kollin Rhea Sullivan, Kyleigh Donn Sullivan, Regan Nicole Hall, and Evan Mitchell Hall; three step-grandchildren, Christopher Stephen Lazenby, Rochelle Lea Lazenby, and Darren Jeffery Lazenby; and two step-great-grandchildren, Carrie Ellen Campbell and Trenton Wayne Campbell; one sister, Dorothy Dillon of La Monte, MO; one brother, Melvin Hall of California, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, father, Willard Tilberry Hall on November 1, 1978, and mother, Lucile Frances DeLapp Hall on July 31, 2003.
Funeral services for Wilbur Rhea Hall will be on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the La Monte Christian Church with Reverend Gene Smith officiating.
Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.
Burial will follow at La Monte Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and step-grandsons, Nicholas Sullivan, Kollin Sullivan, Christopher Lazenby, Darren Lazenby, Kenneth Clausen, and Austin Shull. Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Comfort, Ron Keifer, Dean Kuhns, Jack Shull, and Jack Stone.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the KU Endowment, a cancer research group and can be left in care of Moore Funeral Home in La Monte, MO.
