David M. Smith (1947 - 2013)

Mr. David M. Smith, of Lake Ozark, Mo. passed away Friday, August 16, 2013 at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born on July 28, 1947 in Sedalia, Mo., the son of the late Sheldon and Ilah Monsees Smith. He was married in 1965 in California, Mo. to Fran Schroder. On December 31, 1996 he married Marylyn M. Hobbs, who preceded him in death on November 9, 2011.

A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, David graduated from Smithton High School near Sedalia, Mo. and attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Mo.

David was employed with the Division of Finance with the State of Missouri for over fifteen years. After he retired from the state, David worked as a consultant at the Bank of Versailles.

David was an active member of the B.P.O. of Elks, Lodge 513 and held numerous titles including Past District Deputy Grand Exalter Ruler, Exalter Ruler, and Faith Vice President.

David's main joy in life was fishing, boating and enjoying nature with family and friends at his place on the Lake of the Ozarks. He also enjoyed hunting and traveling with friends.

Survivors include: one son, Jeff Smith and his wife Roxie of Hams Prairie, Mo.; two daughters, Rebecca Eichelberger and her husband Troy of Centertown, Mo. and Rachael Allan and her husband Michael of Bentonville, Arkansas; one step-son, Jim Hobbs and his wife Beth of Jefferson City; one step-daughter, Linda Taylor and her husband John of Holts Summit, Mo.; one brother, Bob Smith and his wife Gladys of Raytown, Mo.; one sister, Cathy Hammons and her husband John of Sedalia, Mo.; eleven grandchildren, Malinda Reed, Daniel Hobbs, Zachary Hobbs, Shannon Smith and her husband Brandon, Kelsey Lauf and her husband Justin, Michael Barnard and his wife Lynna, Jacob Smith, Drew Eichelberger, Lilli Eichelberger, Gabi Allan and Carter Allan; and four great-grandchildren, Sophie Reed, Michael Barnard, Waylon Lauf, and Camdon Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marylyn; and one great-granddaughter, Layton Smith.

Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 20, 2013.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2013 in the Freeman Chapel. Graveside services and interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery.

Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Elks Benevolent Fund.
