Donald Gene Shackelford, age 63, of Stover, died Tuesday evening, November 13, 2012, at St. Marys Health Center in Jefferson City, following a sudden illness.
He was born April 7, 1949, in Versailles, a son of Oren and Loucile Fletcher Shackelford, who preceded him in death. Donald was united in marriage to Natalie Simon on May 11, 1985, at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Versailles. Natalie survives at their home.
He was a 1967 graduate of Morgan County R-I High School in Stover. Donald attended Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg for one year, before being inducted into the military. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps, receiving his honorable discharge on June 8, 1970.
As a young man he worked for Nolting's Sewing Machine Shop in Stover. He was currently employed with Morgan County Roads, working as a motor grader operator for the past 19 years.
Donald also enjoyed the time he could spend operating his beef cattle farm near Stover.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Ethan Shackelford of Rolla and his fiancee, Jordon Miller of Osage Beach; two brothers: Larry Shackelford and wife, Donna, of Kansas City, and Darrell Shackelford and wife, Joy, of St. Charles; one sister, Shirley Copeland and husband, Floyd, of Jefferson City, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 17, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover with Father Bo Ryan officiating. Interment will be in the West Lawn Addition of the Versailles Cemetery.
